Global prevalence of myopia (Estimate and Forecast), 2000-2050

This data is based on the meta meta-study, Global Prevalence of Myopia and High Myopia and Temporal Trends from 2000 through 2050. It used data from 145 studies covering 2.1 million participants to estimate what the outlook could look like in 2050.

According to the study, there were 1.4 billion people with myopia (22.9% of the world population) and 163 million people with high myopia in 2000. It is predicted that by 2050, there will be 4.7 billion people with myopia (49.8% of the world population) and 938 million people with high myopia.
