The data presents annual aviation fatalities in India from 1938 to 2025. Fatalities remained relatively low in the early decades. The deadliest year with 729 fatalities happened in 1996, which is when Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907 and Saudia Flight 763 collided mid-air, marking the deadliest mid-air collision. Following that, the numbers largely remained low owing to improvements in aviation safety.
However, in 2025, Air India Flight 171 crashed soon after takeoff, breaking the streak of relatively safe aviation record of nearly a decade and a half.
